In response to the WHO's heightened level of alert for swine flu, APHA has received new guidance from the Department of Transport and Marine Coast Guard Agency.
The Department of Transport has advised that Passenger Locator Cards (PLCs) should now be completed by all passengers returning from Mexico. These are to be collected by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) or Port Health Authority staff as passengers disembark in the UK from flights to Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester. A copy of the WHO Public Health Passenger Locator Card (PLC) can be dowloaded by clicking on the following link:

More detailed information for transport sector industry stakeholders can be found in the Department of Transport's Note to Transport Sector Industry Stakeholders
In addition, the Marine Coast Guard Agency (MCA) has issued informal guidance for seafarers and vessel operators. Though formal guidance is yet to be released, these guidelines have been reviewed by the Health Protection Agency and are in-line with their recommended approach.
Port Health Authorities and Local Authorities may consider contacting their local MCA contact to ensure that communication channels are open and that there is a good understanding of roles and responsibilities.
