Association of Port Health Authorities

Facing Up to the Challenges Ahead - APHA Conference 2009

APHA Conference 2009 was held at the Marriott Gosforth Park, Newcastle from 8th-10th September and hosted by Tyne Port Health Authority.  Delegates heard presentations on national and international aspects of current and emerging port health issues.

On Tuesday, delegates enjoyed an informative trip down the river Tyne aboard the MV Fortuna, where they got to learn a bit about the local history and regeneration of Tyne port authority, as well as witness the opening of the Millennium Bridge.

APHA was delighted to welcome international delegates from Australia, Barbados, Bermuda, Germany, Hong Kong and St Helena to this year's conference. Speakers  included port health practitioners, academics, government officials and industry representatives from across the UK.  Their presentations can be downloaded as pdfs here

Conference 2009 was also marked by the official launch of the much anticipated Ship Information Management System (SIMS), a joint initiative between APHA and MC Computer Systems, who were on-site to provide overviews and demonstrations of the system.
